چکیده

We report the observation and confirmation of the first groupand cluster-scale strong gravitational lensing systems found in Dark Energy Survey data. Through visual inspection of data from the Science Verification season, we identified 53 candidate systems. We then obtained spectroscopic follow-up of 21 candidates using the Gemini Multi-object Spectrograph at the Gemini South telescope and the Inamori-Magellan Areal Camera and Spectrograph at the Magellan/Baade telescope. With this follow-up, we confirmed six candidates as gravitational lenses: three of the systems are newly discovered, and the remaining three were previously known. Of the 21 observed candidates, the remaining 15 either were not detected in spectroscopic observations, were observed and did not exhibit continuum emission (or spectral features), or were ruled out as lensing systems. The confirmed sample consists of one group-scale and five galaxy-cluster-scale lenses. The lensed sources range in redshift z ∼ 0.80–3.2 and in i-band surface brightness iSB ∼ 23–25 mag arcsec −2 (2′′ aperture). For each of the six systems, we estimate the Einstein radius θE and the enclosed mass Menc, which have ranges θE ∼ 5′′–9′′ and Menc ∼ 8 × 10 12 to 6 × 10Me, respectively.

Constraints on Scalar-Field Dark Energy from the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey Gravitational Lens Statistics

We use the statistics of strong gravitational lensing based on the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey (CLASS) data to constrain cosmological parameters in a spatially-flat, inverse power-law potential energy density, scalar-field dark energy cosmological model. The lensing-based constraints are consistent with, but weaker than, those derived from Type Ia supernova redshift-magnitude data, and mildly fa...

The Dark Energy Survey Science Program

The Dark Energy Survey (DES) will enable measurements of the dark energy and dark matter densities and the dark energy equation of state through four independent methods: galaxy clusters, weak gravitational lensing, galaxy angular clustering (baryon acoustic oscillations), and supernovae. These methods, highlighted by the Dark Energy Task Force Report (DETF) as the most promising, are doubly co...

Discovery of the lensed quasar system DES

We report the discovery and spectroscopic confirmation of the quad-like lensed quasar system DES J0408-5354 found in the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 1 (Y1) data. This system was discovered during a search for DES Y1 strong lensing systems using a method that identified candidates as red galaxies with multiple blue neighbors. DES J0408-5354 consists of a central red galaxy surrounded by three ...

Strong Gravitational Lensing and Dark Energy Complementarity

In the search for the nature of dark energy most cosmological probes measure simple functions of the expansion rate. While powerful, these all involve roughly the same dependence on the dark energy equation of state parameters, with anticorrelation between its present value w0 and time variation wa. Quantities that have instead positive correlation and so a sensitivity direction largely orthogo...

Truncation of galaxy dark matter halos in high density environments

Key words. Cosmology: dark mater – Galaxies: halos – Gravitational lensing Our aim is to constrain the properties of dark matter halos inhabiting high density environments, such as is the case in massive galaxy clusters. We use galaxy-galaxy lensing techniques that utilize a maximum likelihood method to constrain the parameters of the lenses. It has been demonstrated that such a technique provi...
